Jack Wilmer
Jack was the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Cybersecurity and the Chief Information Security Officer for the Department of Defense (DoD). He led expert policy, technical, program, and Defense-wide oversight on all aspects and matters related to DoD Cybersecurity. He oversaw the integration of Defense-wide programs to protect the Department’s critical infrastructure against advanced persistent threats, and assured coordination of cybersecurity standards, policies, and procedures with other federal agencies, coalition partners, and industry.
Prior to this role, Jack served as the Principal Assistant Director for National Security and International Affairs for the Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP). Jack supported the whole-of-government policy coordination on national security topics, including the Nation’s nuclear weapons posture, bio/chem-threats and security, pandemic response, quantum information sciences, artificial intelligence, and national security / emergency preparedness communications infrastructure. Jack also served OSTP as a Senior Policy Advisor for Cybersecurity and IT Modernization to advance the President’s technology agenda by focusing on job creation, modernizing federal infrastructure, and protecting the Homeland.
Jack also served in various other senior level roles in the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense (DoD). These roles include serving as the Vice Director for the 1200+ person, $1B+ organization responsible for development, acquisition, and evolution of all new capabilities provided by Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), leading the 275+ person, $600M+ organization responsible for all DISA’s cyber defense capabilities, and serving as the Technical Director for DHS’s cyber defense programs. Prior to his government service, Jack served 10+ years in industry in various software engineering, program management, and executive leadership roles.
